How much can I make Starting as a personal fitness trainer?

Posted by admin on March 10th, 2010 and filed under personal fitness | 3 Comments »

I am thinking of a career change, something more fulfilling and interesting to me personally. How much can I make starting with no experience and how much can I make potentially? Thanks for any info…..

At the start you will have to work at a Health Club that will assist you in gaining clients. This will not pay much at all. Hourly Wage rate about $15 per hour. The key is to gain a good reputation, get referrals from clients and build you own "practice". Once you are established it is conceivable to make $50- $100 per hour with a successful book of business.

Ultimately, without having a private practice or following, your income limitations are somewhere around $25,000-$40,000

How good nutrition is related to the other components of personal fitness?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under personal fitness | 3 Comments »

Also, what are the three components of a sound weight (fat) control program?

Outside of activity (of almost any sort) nutrition is a huge factor in weight loss … calories in must be less than spent calories to lose weight. Period.

Diets are short term solutions to generally poor habits we’ve learned in eating … it’s not that tough to change however – you just need to want it badly enough. (Making right food choices seems overwhelming at first but remember, if it took 5 years to put on the weight it will take time to lose it and be in shape once again.)

Eat nutritious foods (generally not ready made) and start exercising slowly and then add to it. Stick with it! Make it easy and make it fun!

There are no ‘magic’ formulas to losing fat. Weight loss is weight loss but you are better served to do some aerobic and anaerobic activities. Meaning, if you lift weights it adds to overall muscle mass (adding body weight) but it also increases metabolism (that will in turn burn calories – including fat.)

Good luck!

Why is it important to establish personal fitness goals?

Posted by admin on March 8th, 2010 and filed under personal fitness | 5 Comments »

Also, why is it important to track the activities you do, or to plan ahead in advance what activities you will do to reach your goals?

You need a goal for benchmarking your performance. Think of a house being built with the help of an architect’s final design. The builders can look at the architect’s design if they are heading towards the wrong direction.

Similarly, personal fitness goals are like an architect’s final design.

Without the goals you may not know where you are heading. For example, your personal fitness goal may be to join a 20km marathon, so you need to be able to run/jog 20km.

You can set the goal, and create a plan of running 2km, then 3km, 5km… until you are able to run/jog 20km.

"why is it important to track the activities you do"
Without tracking it’s hard to determine your progress. Using the marathon example, if you keep training everyday without tracking your progress you wouldn’t know how fit you are.

"Why is it important to plan ahead in advance what activities you will do to reach your goals?"
Planning activities in advance helps you determine whether it will help you achieve your goal.

For example if you would want to increase your ability to run 20km, you will need to plan activities that help you build stamina. If you are going for a 100m sprint, then your activities would revolve around building muscles so that you can sprint faster rather than build stamina.

If you train your stamina but not your speed, then you might not be able to join the sprinting competition.

That is why it’s important to plan WHAT activities you want to carry out to achieve your goal.
