Serious Question: What is a really good book for self improvement?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under self improvement | 2 Comments »

I am looking into refining my personality and habits that I wish I didn’t have. Certain things and ways I treat people, I don’t want to do them anymore. I just want to be aware of certain things and have an effective way of changing certain things that I don’t find appealing.

Please state the name of the book and How it helped you and Why you feel it is a great choice.

Thanks again for reading this, and thank you if you decide to reply.

-Michael

The 4 Agreements
by Don Miguel Ruiz

It’s a book which was written by a former dr. after he was ridden with guilt for being the driver in a very serious car accident. After this, he re-assessed his life. The book isn’t about the accident, being a dr., or anything. He was raised on Toltec wisdom and it describes how their very simple ideals can help you improve your life, become a better person, and actually feel good about yourself and like yourself.

I have never been into self-help because I find a lot of it to be cheesy, cliche, silly,self-serving, easier said than done, and stating the obvious. But this book is different. It’s not religious although it is someone spiritual. it’s not pop-psychology,it’s based on real wisdom which has helped people since ancient times. It’s simple and easy to relate to. I first read it several years ago, and whenever things are going badly for me and I feel unhappy with myself, I re-read the book or certain relevant segments of it to help myself get back on track. It’s very simple and general but it applies to many situations, if you use it with good intentions.

The only thing is, it might seem kind of ridiculous at first… you have to stick with it until you get to a point where you see what he’s talking about. I used to feel so bad about myself and the decisions I made. At first I thought this book would be stupid, but as I kept reading and getting more involved in what was being said, it really made me see things from a different perspective. Overall it made me realize that I control my own actions and my own life. I can’t say it has made me become exactly the person I want to be, but I am much closer than I was before I read this book (then, I was in an abusive relationship, stuck in a dead-end job, always said things I didn’t mean, felt lazy and unmotivated, fought with friends, family, and people I loved, did things I regretted all the time, etc. Now none of those things are true for me anymore.)

I really hope this helps. Check out the website. The book is very cheap at Borders/ Barnes & Noble/ Amazon.

What do you think about using hypnotism for self improvement?

Posted by admin on March 8th, 2010 and filed under self improvement | 6 Comments »

I have seen this stuff out there and many people I know are very distrustful of it. I kinda don’t blame them but I was personally thinking about looking at some of that stuff to try and understand my sub conscious side of myself better.

i think it’s a good thing. i have known people to lose weight and quit smoking by hypnotism. good luck to you

SANYO’s next-generation nickel metal hydride battery eneloop 4pk AA NiMh 2000 mah batteries. Batteries have a property to release the stored energy in small amounts (this phenomenon is called self-discharge). This property is particularly noticeable in rechargeable batteries such as Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries etc. as compared to dry cell batteries, hence disabling rechargeable batteries from becoming batteries that customers can use immediately after purchase. I finished writing a self improvement book. How to make it published?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under self improvement | 3 Comments »

1/ How to make it published?
2/ If I print it on my expense, how to make it distributed over the US stores?

First,
Edit it many times to make it as good as it can be. Put it in a drawer, and don’t even think about it, for a month or two, then take it out and do more editing.
Type it in proper manuscript form (http://www.writersdigest.com has the details on what is needed).
Think about joining a writer’s group (local or online) to get feedback from other would-be writers.
Get it proofread by someone who knows what they are doing (do not rely just on spellcheck).

There are a tiny number of publishers who accept unsolicited manuscripts (those that don’t go through a literary agent), so getting an agent is a good idea.

Visit http://www.agentquery.com or, at the library or bookstore, look for Bowker’s Literary Marketplace, Writer’s Market 2009 or Guide to Literary Agents (published by Writer’s Digest). Look for agents that handle self-improvement books and are looking for new clients. Read, and follow, their submission guidelines.

Learn how to write a query letter, which is what is sent to the agent, first (those books will have something about it). It’s half synopsis of your book, and half explanation as to why your book should be published. You have just that one-page letter to wow the agent, so take the time to make it a good one.

Expect the whole process to take lots of time, and expect many rejections. When you are accepted by an agent, they will send your book to publisher, not you.

Except for postage, the entire process of getting an agent is FREE, until a publisher buys your book. That is when the agent gets their portion, usually 15%, of the money that goes to you. Run away from any agent that asks for money upfront.

Good luck!

Where do you draw the line between self-improvement and accepting yourself as you are?

Posted by admin on March 6th, 2010 and filed under self improvement | 8 Comments »

How do you know what personal qualities can be worked on and what you just have to live with?
Please no God/Jesus/religious answers.

There is no line.

In order to self-improve you HAVE to accept who you are, otherwise what you’re doing is trying to stick an upside down triangle block to a foundational rectangle block, if you’ll permit me to use LEGO as a visual reference.

What would be the best section to post self-improvement questions?

Posted by admin on March 5th, 2010 and filed under self improvement | 2 Comments »

I am improving my life & have allot of questions about how others did this. Would polls be the place to go. An example of a question would be: Do you excercise & meditate everyday? If so how much time do you spend on each? or another question might be about discipline tips in eating a balanced diet. I know I can ask that is diet but I am looking for how the person put their mind down to doing this…This question defaulting to the Yahoo Products sections is that the area I should go?

I think each question has to be handled separately and put into the category that fits it best, like if it is an eating question, I would put it in the diet and exercise, but if it is about spiritually, then that would go in like science and religion. I go to the travel section a lot and will see questions not associated at all about travel there, but they still get answered pretty well, so I guess what I am saying is that detail about where to post your question is not too important. Some sections, I never go to and Yahoo products is one of them.
