Leila: Well my father didnt know a lot about Desteni, he only picked up a few things that he heard when me and my mom would discuss it or me, my brother and my sister, and he basically had this idea of , okay these people think in a different way, have a different lifestyle and he was fine with that. My mom on the other hand participated within process. After a few months that me, my brother and my sister participated, we started sharing with our mother and she could see how it could support her and assist her in her life. So that was pretty cool, because, like even with my brother and my sister for the first time we actually started to know each other, we werent just these brother, sister role personalities and mother within a family construct for the first time we became open to each other and we could actually talk. So we got a more intimate relationship. So, from that perspective my mom was really happy about, well not really happy but she didnt have anything against desteni, because she could see how it was improving her and our lives. And at for instance at school, as I said, I got more effective so obviously my mom is happy with that because I got good grades now and all of that. So there was nothing that she really could have against it and because my mom didnt have anything against it, neither did my dad, type of thing. Because she could see us improving, being more happy, and she saw that we were applying what was being presented so that was very cool for her …

Our students have come to photography from different paths, sometimes slowly and gradually, so- metimes almost by chance. The photo projects gathered here reflect their visions, their doubts, their potential and their value, but also the place where they started. For photography is part of their lives. Where Frano Prochazka and Alberto Lizaralde show emotions, Leticia Tojar and Enrique Galdú face the strangeness in their places of work. Where Antonio Muñoz de Mesa watches the world distant and ironic, Toni Rodríguez uses his own experience to meditate about the nature of migrations. And where David Hornillos creates a new world with his pictures of a neighbourhood in Madrid, shows an expressive project about the riddle of boxing, defeat and self- improvement. But there is more in these projects than promises and babbling. Each of them defines here the guide- lines of a quest and a road. Our students will evolve from now on, with their cameras as friends and weapons. Their future as photographers will be built on these projects, which are their first dreams turned into images. Intimate Strangers – What Are You Waiting For

“Charm” 1986 Raise The Dragon was a duo from Scotland (Richard Spellman – vocal & Sean Lyons -guitar)released one only Ep,later changed their name to Intimate Strangers to come out with an album in 1986. Their music is a mixture of Bowie, Bryan Ferry and Haircut 100 (Mark Fox and Les Nemes from Haircut 100 played on this album). Sean has played the guitar with such diverse artists as George Clinton, Robyn Hitchcock and Brian Kennedy, toured in ‘98 with French star Patricia Kaas and even played banjo on “5-6-7-8″ by Steps (a career high?). He has collaborated with Stewart Copeland on work included in Rumblefish and Highlander 3 amongst other films, and David Bowie recorded one of his first songs “Criminal World” on the “Let’s Dance” album. Back in 1976 he was a member of art rock band Metro together with Peter Godwin before formed Raise The Dragon “There was once a two-man band named Raise the Dragon, who made one gracefully mannered EP I thought was wonderful. Before they could even make a whole album, though, as best I can deduce, they got hit on the heads by falling frozen turkeys or something, and woke up with some sheet music and each other and no memories. They formed a new band, called Intimate Strangers in honor of their amnesiac alliance, and remade most of the songs from the EP in randomly different styles. Head injury isn’t really a self-improvement program, and some of the songs fare incredibly poorly in their second lives (”Raise the Dragon” itself makes me …
